[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Emilee Kaufman (@emkaufman), a founding instructor at HUSTLE DMV.
WellcommDC: Where do you work…out?
Emilee Kaufman: I have the amazing privilege of being a founding instructor at HUSTLE DMV, a cycling and strength studio in Arlington, Virginia.
WDC: What does wellness mean to you?
EK: I think wellness is the act of taking care of your current and future body and mind. In my opinion, you can't truly have physical or mental wellness without the other. Also, emphasis on the future trains us to be resilient because we know too well that progress isn't linear, and it's important that we can adapt to life changes along the way.
WDC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?
EK: I work full-time in consulting, so right now I'm focused on getting out from behind my desk and increasing my step count. I have found that taking at least one 20-minute walk significantly improves my mood. I also have some short-term goals around sleeping more and a performance goal of doing 10 pull-ups.
WDC: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?
EK: I feel so lucky to have so many people in my corner who encourage me to work hard and rest hard. Some who stand out are the founding team at HUSTLE DMV. The way they have shown up for me this last year is nothing short of amazing. I also wouldn’t be the coach I am today without two of my other coaches: Raine McKeython (@coachrainestorm) who continues to show me the importance of training and recovering like an athlete. Shout out to #TheTeam. And of course Lauren Polovoy (@lauren10978), my friend and former nutritionist, who helped me fundamentally change my relationship with food to fuel my wellness goals.
WDC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?
EK: At a high level, I'd encourage them to understand the 'why' behind their goals - if you want to change for anyone but you, it won’t work. After that, I'd recommend setting some measurable and achievable goals (protein, water, activity, sleep, etc.). Routine and accountability will help you tremendously; find an accountability partner or get a membership that charges you for cancelling.

Drake's (@champagnepapi) hits still bring the energy, and early Lil Wayne (@liltunchi) woke up all the Washingtonians battling for parking. Jared described the ride as “an early morning espresso shot on the bike,” and it delivered! [Tap It Back]
