[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Nicole Turchi (@nicole.turchi) a SoulCycle instructor and fitness coach.

WellcommDC: Where do you work…out?

Nicole Turchi: SoulCycle Clarendon. You can find me coaching in the mornings on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday! When I’m not on the bike, I love cross training with yoga at SoulFire Collective, and strength training at [solidcore]. My favorite coaches at SoulFire are ChaCha King (@king_chachaaa), and Whit Murray (@hiwhit)

WDC: What does wellness mean to you?

NT: As a child, I was a competitive ice skater and there was so much pressure to look a certain way. I felt like I was at war with my body and mind for most of my life. Now, I aim to feel at peace with all parts of myself while doing what I need to nourish my mind, body, and soul. This looks like prioritizing the friendships that fill me up, snuggling with my toddler, going to farmers markets every week, and fueling myself up with farm fresh food.

WDC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?

NT: As a DMV native, I’m highly ambitious. In the past, I would work myself to the point of burnout and not prioritize my wellness. What I’m after now is being in the hustle while caring for myself deeply: knowing when to push and when to rest, when to work and when to play, and fueling and nourishing myself rather than depleting my energy. I am focused on becoming the strongest and most well-rested version of myself yet.

WDC: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?

NT: Kathleen Kulikowski (@kathleenkulikowski) - When I was studio crew at SoulCycle going for my dream of being an instructor, she was there for me every step of the way. She taught me how to ride, how to motivate, and how to inspire. I am where I am now because of her belief in me.

Kristina Girod (@thekristinagirod) - This woman is one of the top community builders in the game. She built POWER + FLOW from the ground into a brand that’s recognized all over the world. Her community is electric — the vibes are so high in her classes. With all of her success, she’s one of the most humble and hard working people I’ve ever met.

Priscilla Perez (@priscillaperezzz) - Priscilla blends the worlds of cycling and dance together in a way that I had never seen before. As a lifelong dancer and an indoor cyclist for 10 years, this was so inspiring to me. Her cycle classes feel like you’re in a dance class or throwing ass at the club. She’s one of the most supportive humans I’ve ever met in the cycle scene.

WDC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?

NT: Take it one step at a time, one change at a time. Celebrate yourself for every win (especially the small ones) and let go of the need to do it perfectly. When you fall off your goals, give yourself kindness, and realign yourself with who you want to be.

[REVIEW] We kicked it at Barrys Dupont Circle this week with the great Nazinga Thomas (@Carnelian.zing_) leading a full body - lower focus class. One thing is for certain, we wouldn’t dare want to race her. If she works out half as intensely as she leads class, we’re all in trouble! Her classes are always packed, but you can find plenty of space during the 4 pm hours. [Work(out) Hard & Have Fun]

[OPENING] Congratulations to SWEAT DC and The PHYT Collective on the opening of a new PHYT Collective within the SWEAT DC space on H Street, NE. Enjoy the same one-on-one, private experience you love, now even more accessible for those on the east side of the city. [Sprinting Into Fall]

[COMMUNITY] Summer may be winding down, but City Girls Who Walk DC has exciting plans to keep the good times rolling all through August. Their August calendar just dropped, including weekly walks, happy hours, and an August 18th morning walk to South Block with Maddie Smith (@onthemovewithmad). From Orange Theory classes to Investing 101 Webinars, you can meet new friends and give back to their monthly charity, The Wendt Center for Loss and Healing. [CGWWDC]

[EVENT] Experience the perfect Sunday morning with YogaSix South Alexandria on August 18th at 10 am. Start your morning with a rejuvenating yoga session led by Jessica Tacka (@meowmediadc), followed by a refreshing locally crafted cider @ Lost Boy Cider. $25 for the 60 minute class includes one adult beverage. [Small But Mighty]
