[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Denesia D. Rodgers (@denesiatheyogi), a local Pilates, yoga, and meditation teacher in the DMV.

WellcommDC: Where do you work…out?

Denesia D. Rodgers: Truthfully, I am a home body! I built a home gym during the pandemic, and as a single mom of two, working out at home is just the most convenient. I do sometimes break a sweat at Onelife Clinton and Bouldering Project

WDC: What does “wellness” mean to you?

DR: Wellness for me is mind, body, and spirit. I truly believe it starts with the mind which is why meditation is something that is essential to my wellness journey. Then the physical is through movement that I do through various modalities from strength training, cardio, yoga, and pilates. The spirit is through my spiritual walk through life that connects the mind and the body.

WDC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?

DR: My main goals are developing a consistent movement practice, understanding the various Pilates apparatuses, and support good gut health.

WDC: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?

DR: I follow a lot of great fitness instructors online who have supported me understanding strength training, pilates and yoga.

WDC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?

DR: Just start, be consistent, be patient, and always keep learning
