[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Nakita Manning (@nahimmastay_me), a solidcore coach at the Wildwood studio in Bethesda, Maryland.
WellcommDC: Where do you work…out?
Nakita Manning: My fitness routine includes workouts at SoulFire Collective Yoga, Equinox, SoulCycle, and of course, solidcore. I particularly enjoy the vibes and community at SoulFire, private Pilates sessions and group fitness classes at Equinox, energizing rides at SoulCycle, and the intense yet low-impact workouts at solidcore. Shoutout to my favorite instructors/teachers/coaches: @the_rose.j, @poppyaka, @toned_byt, @2dfitlife, @sashmgash, @callme_coachmc, @abbyfindsbalance, and all the coaches at #solidcorewildwood, and @king_chachaaa [HF 2.12.24] and all the amazing yoga teachers at SoulFire.
WDC: What does “wellness” mean to you?
NM: For me, wellness is all about how my mind, body, and soul connect. It's like taking care of a plant. My soul acts as the roots, grounding me in purpose and meaningful relationships. My body is like the trunk and branches, supporting my physical health and strength. And my mind is like the leaves and flowers, representing growth, creativity, and mental well-being. When I pay attention to all these aspects, I become a more complete and thriving person. When my mind, body, and soul aren't in sync, different areas of my life suffer. It's crucial for me to have all three in harmony to achieve inner peace and happiness.
WDC: What motivates you to take care of your wellness?
NM: I'm motivated to prioritize my wellness to set a positive example for my family, especially my son, daughter, nieces, and nephews. Mental health is a top priority for me, and I find that physical activity helps clear my mind, boosts my energy levels, and enhances my productivity throughout the day. It enables me to approach life with an open mind and a clear heart.
WDC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?
NM: Over the next twelve months, my wellness goals include completing my comprehensive Pilates certification program to teach mat and reformer Pilates. Additionally, I'll continue practicing yoga with my favorite group at SoulFire, explore breathwork, integrate meditation into my daily routine, and maintain mindfulness in my everyday life. It's a work in progress, but I'm committed to staying intentional, awake, and aware in each moment.
WDC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?
NM: Just start! Don't wait or procrastinate. It doesn't have to be perfect or in a studio. Utilize free tools like the Nike Training Club, Calm, or Headspace apps, or find free classes on YouTube. Take a walk and explore your neighborhood. The key is to take action now. You've got this!
