[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Whit Murray (@hiwhit), a yoga, Pilates, and dance cardio instructor at SoulFire Collective Yoga, Mind the Mat, and Alo Yoga.
WellcommDC: Where do you work…out?
Whit Murray: I teach mat Pilates at Alo Yoga in Georgetown, DC, yoga at SoulFire Collective Yoga in Clarendon, VA, and Pilates Boot Camp at Mind the Mat in Lyon Park, VA. I also love taking the Burn class at BASH with Alex Trakas (@lextrak13) and am excited to check out the new Cut Seven in Arlington!
WDC: What does “wellness” mean to you?
WM: Wellness is how I move, what I ingest, where my thoughts drift, and who I surround myself with. It's choosing consciously all the ways I can optimize my one experience here on earth.
WDC: What motivates you to take care of your wellness?
WM: Being able to carry all the groceries from the car in one trip, the thought of aging well into my 100s, and falling down icy stairs and standing up unscathed. My seven year career as a nurse prior to entering the fitness/wellness industry and seeing the direct correlation between active humans and healthy humans.
WDC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?
WM: More joy through dancing, more connection by taking classes with friends, and better self-care through hydration (hate drinking water), adequate nutrition (RIP Girl Dinner), and sleep hygiene.
WDC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?
WM: Start right now with who you are and where you are at. There is never going to be a more "optimal" time to begin. Find a movement practice that excites and encourages you so it feels less like work and more like a privilege you get to participate in.
