[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Megan Twining (@megan.twining), the founder and lead teacher at Sonder Whole Fitness and Astēr Yoga Teacher Training.

WellcommDC: Where do you work…out?

Megan Twining: I teach movement and mindfulness at Sonder Whole Fitness. You can catch me and the whole Sonder team teaching and taking each other’s classes: Barre, TRX, Yoga: Hot Power / Vinyasa / Restorative. Sonder has 45+ classes on the schedule weekly. Yoga Nidra and Meditation classes are free. Sonder’s most popular classes are restorative yoga with @alliecatyoga, barre with @laurenmichele109, inversion workshops with @kelseamovespt, and TRX with @melaneeleigh.

WDC: What does “wellness” mean to you?

MT: Wellness, in my experience, is recognizing our own brilliant, beautiful, true selves, our spiritual selves, and then aligning physically, emotionally, and energetically to bring forth what lights us up because that is what the world needs!

WDC: What motivates you to take care of your wellness?

MT: Great question. Community! My wellness buddies @katrinejuliedesign, @ap.fitlife, @carterkins719, and @kariann who show up so committed to their own journey that it carries me day-to-day. I have known being “unwell” and have made a vow to myself: protecting the love I have discovered within is non-negotiable. This guides my every step forward and creates true joy for claiming wellness.

WDC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?

MT: I have a lot of automaticity with my meditation and mindfulness practices and look forward to prioritizing fluid mobility again. My big goal is to incorporate daily asana practice. Let’s go, hip flexor strength!

WDC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?

MT: Slow down. Find a teacher who cares about helping you discover the aspects of yourself that may currently be pushed to the side and then slowly work your way to finding harmony. I think we all get trapped into rushing into something in hopes of improving some aspect of our bodies or our mental health. That rush just delays the progress. Take the time to find what is meant for you: your subtle body will lead the way, then the routine will come with ease.

[COMMUNITY] The PHYT Collective is hosting a Black Leadership panel on Wednesday, February 28th, from 6:15 to 7:30 pm, featuring Ashley Speights (@ashleyspeightsdpt), founder of The PHYT Collective, Chris Perrin, co-founder of Cut Seven, Coach G, founder of SWEAT DC, and moderator Whitney Stringer (@whitneystringerpr). Topics will focus on Black entrepreneurship in the fitness industry and the legacies that these leaders are building and hope to leave behind. Registration is free, and food and drinks will be provided.

[RACES] From Salisbury, Maryland to Wilmington, Delaware, there are several important upcoming races around and near the DMV, and we’re not talking about the political kind:
