[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Marcus Lowe (@marcusxlowe), a DMV area certified personal trainer and wellness advisor.

WellcommDC: Where do you work…out?

Marcus Lowe: I workout at the LAB (which has an alternative meaning of Lifting and Building). It is a space/concept that we have been slowly building up over the last two years, but has recently expanded due to full time energy going into it. Shoutout to @flex_dmv for providing us with the space to grow into!

WDC: What does “wellness” mean to you?

ML: For me, wellness is the pursuit of mental, physical, and spiritual elevation. The constant pursuit to grow in each of those areas while still appreciating where I currently stand in this space and time. It is what you make it, but you have to make it your own.

WDC: What motivates you to take care of your wellness?

ML: Waking up each day is a blessing. I aim to honor that blessing by striving to be the best version of myself, and taking care of my wellness is the foundation of accomplishing that goal.

WDC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?

ML: I would like to expand into the yoga/meditation space. Sitting still is one of the hardest things for me to do (second only to Solidcore), but mastering the noise in my mind and connecting to my body is something that I would like to accomplish. That and doing a split...but the split can wait!

WDC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?

ML: Take some time to find out what you enjoy. We often chase fads and quick fixes, but wellness is a lifelong journey, so you should try your best to enjoy it.

[CLASS REVIEW] We flowed it out at Alo Yoga in Georgetown with the lovely Lilly Scott (@lillyscott). Calling all yoga lovers – Lilly’s class is a must! From the moment the class began, Lilly’s positive energy radiated throughout the room, instantly setting a welcoming and encouraging tone for the practice. Her enthusiasm was contagious, motivating everyone in the class to push past their limitations and just have a good time. Lilly curates an inclusive and loving environment, and you leave with something you didn’t have when you came into the studio.

If you’re looking to have some fun on a Saturday morning, Lilly’s class is for you! It’s great for any yogi, and her modifications help to meet you where you are in your practice. Lilly’s Saturday class is extremely popular, so be sure to book your spot early if you want to sweat it out and immerse yourself in great vibes! [HT Jude Al-Hmoud (@judealhmoud)]

[CHALLENGES] Shoutout to everyone around the DMV participating in CUT SEVEN’s HEART Challenge and BASH’s The Proof Is In The Punches Challenge. If you’re doing either, tag us in an Instagram post @WellcommDC so we can celebrate your progress! [HT Caren Plummer (@care_plummer)]

[UPCOMING] HYROX fitness racing is coming to the DMV on March 2nd for their North American Open Championships. Even if you aren’t training and competing, come by to watch and cheer on your fellow members of Washington, DC’s wellness community, then celebrate around nearby Blagden Alley afterwards! [This Rox]

[RACE] The 26th Annual Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Mile & 5K In-Person Runs are coming up, with the 5K happening on April 6th and the 10M happening on April 7th.
