[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Caroline Campisi (@carolinecampisi), a Coach at BASH Boxing.
WellcommDC: Where do you work…out?
Caroline Campisi: At the moment, my favorite places to workout are FLEX | DMV. Life Time Clarendon and of course BASH! On the days that I am not in the gym, I love going on a run or a long walk with my dog, Stormi.
WDC: What does wellness mean to you?
CC: Wellness means balance – in everything. It’s not just about your physical well-being but also about caring for your mental, physical, and emotional well-being.
As an athlete my entire life, I thought that wellness meant training and working out every day, pushing myself to the absolute extreme. This mindset carried into my professional career – working nonstop and not taking a day off. I thought that, in order to be successful in these two avenues of my life, I needed to do the absolute most, to the absolute extreme. This extreme mentality led to a very fractured mental well-being.
It wasn’t until this year that I truly found balance leads to overall wellness. I discovered that taking time for yourself, listening to your body, and not falling into the trap of being hard on yourself has created the healthiest, happiest, and most successful version of me.
I must give a huge shoutout to Alex Trakas (@lextrak13), who has played a significant role in this discovery over the past year.
WDC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?
CC: As I head into this next year, I want to continue this journey to be my healthiest and happiest self. I aim to incorporate more weightlifting into my weekly workout routine, with the goal of becoming stronger overall.
My boyfriend, Shurman Riggins (@shurmtheworm), will also be competing in HYROX DC in the mixed-doubles division after previously competing in the mixed-doubles race at Hyrox NYC this past June. I have competed in Hyrox twice before solo, but getting to experience the race with the person I love—cheering each other on—was truly special, and we want to do it again. We have a goal to train even harder leading up to it and hopefully lower our time!
WDC: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?
CC: The person who inspires and motivates me the most is my boyfriend, Shurman Riggins (@shurmtheworm). When we’re not training for our next race, we’re in the gym together, taking classes, or he’s taking my BASH classes—cheering each other on. We support each other every day with the goal of being the best versions of ourselves to show up for each other.
Second, a huge shoutout to Matt Moosavian (@mattmoosavian). This past year, Matt convinced me to start doing 4:45 am workouts with him FLEX | DMV, and I am forever grateful. The Train with Matt workouts are TOUGH—but these sessions have made me stronger. Huge shout out to the group that shows up and pushes me: Rachel Martell (@rachelmartell), Juan Marcano (@juanmrcn), Mike Winter (@mike_winter40), and Frank Cadle (@fcadle).
Another huge shoutout to my entire BASH fam. This community kick started my fitness journey and has shaped me into the person I am today. From every single member to every coach, we continue to motivate each other and show up for each other—truly standing by our motto of “Always in Your Corner!”
WDC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?
CC: Don’t be afraid to try new things!
