[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Carly Ohlrich (@carlyohlrich) who is currently the studio manager at SoulFire Collective Yoga.
WellcommDC: Where do you work…out?
Carly Ohlrich: The Arlington community is full of so many amazing fitness studios. I personally love to workout at CUT SEVEN with coach Juan Marcano (@juanmrcn) and coach Alex Perrin (@alex.perrin7), Life Time, and Barry's with Nazinga Thomas (@carnelian.zing_).
WDC: What does wellness mean to you?
CO: To me, wellness means listening to your body and figuring out what makes you feel good. I have worked out in a gym for many years but only in recent years did I really find out what my body needs to be healthy and feel good. Personally, I love to include a movement practice, breathwork practice, meditation, and often add in a cold plunge and sauna. Yoga is the main movement practice that allows me to get out of my head and into my body. I was a student at SoulFire Collective Yoga prior to teaching and managing, and it was the first practice I found that connected me so deeply to myself. Yoga lets you pause and tune in. We get caught up in these crazy lifestyles that we all lead and forget to ground. Wellness is making that time to pause and ground, whatever that means to you.
WDC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?
CO: Over the next twelve months I intend to take more time and pause. I want to make sure I am consistently practicing what I preach. That includes reading, breathwork, meditation, and overall health and wellness. I intend to set a routine out that allows me to add everything that I need to my daily practices. The winter can be a particularly difficult time to do this, but that is also why it is the most important time.
SoulFire Collective Yoga Arlington is rolling out a "wellness-focused" month this upcoming January, meaning that we will have pop-up classes in breathwork, yin, slow power, sound bowls, and more. I intend to use these facets to add to my overall health and wellbeing into the new year of 2025.
WDC: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?
CO: Brooke Wyman (@_b.wyman_), Kat Wyman (@_katwyman_), OWAKEN, and my incredible SoulFire Collective Yoga team and family: Whit Murray (@hiwhit), Michelle Martini (@michellexmartini), Rachel Okotete (@ray_raychill_g), Kaitlyn Doyle (@k8lyn_doyle), Katie Tigani (@dr.tigs), Katie Thompson (@k8dt), and Emma Kate Swann (@aussie.ek), Alex Trakas (@lextrak13), Ciara Miz (@ciaramiz) and Meredith Stasa (@mstasa1818).
WDC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?
CO: Creating a habit doesn't happen overnight. It is going to take time and hard work. Another thing to keep in mind is that there are going to be days that look different than others. My advice would be to choose a few things at a time. For me it was reading 10 pages a day and meditating for five minutes. It can be small. Some days it will be harder, but eventually things will stick and you will start to feel the benefit.
Something that will help is to surround yourself with like-minded people. Over the past year I have connected with so many people who have similar goals and this has allowed me to really deepen my wellness practices. Having a buddy come with you to class, breathe with you, just text to check in with you- it all matters. Be there for those around you and make sure to allow time for connection. Arlington is a really cool fitness community because you can find so many incredible people who have these same goals. Please feel free to reach out to me if you ever want to chat or connect!
