[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Jamie Purtell (@_jamiesonpurtell_), a Coach with BASH Boxing and a champion boxer with Haymakers for Hope (H4H).

WellcommDC: Where do you work…out?

Jamie Purtell: When I’m not coaching or working out at Bash Boxing, you can find me training at one of my favorite gyms in town, The Conditioning Room (TCR) and TCR Barbell in Courthouse, owned by Mike Savitch (@mikesavitch) and Brittany Savitch. You can also catch me throwing hands with the best boxing coach in town, Jonathan Nampha (@jonathan.nampha).

WDC: What does wellness mean to you?

JP: To show up for yourself and feel your best emotionally, mentally, and physically in all aspects of life gives you a sense of purpose at the end of the day.

Since winning my H4H fight, I now have the mindset that I can take on anything life throws at me. As crazy as it sounds, I think, 'If I went through fight training and won, I can handle anything that comes my way.'

WDC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?

JP: This past year, I competed in a variety of events: two Hyrox competitions (DC and NYC!), training out of The Conditioning Room (TCR); placed second in an Olympic lifting meet, trained by TCR Barbell ; and stepped into the ring for the first time, winning my fight with Haymakers for Hope (H4H), trained by Jonathan Nampha (@jonathan.nampha) out of BASH Boxing.

Over the next year, my goal is to continue finding ways to maintain balance in my life and fill my cup so I can do the same for others. My favorite part about coaching is helping and watching people become the best versions of themselves, and I firmly believe that’s hard to achieve if I’m not living my best life.

WDC: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?

JP: There are way too many people to name, but everyone I surround myself with—whether as a coach at BASH Boxing or at The Conditioning Room (TCR) six days a week—keeps me coming back for more, especially the 5AM crew at TCR. Sometimes, I even get FOMO if I miss a class. You are who you surround yourself with.

WDC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?

JP: Find a form of fitness that excites you to show up, so it feels less like a task and more like something you get to do!
