[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Dheeya Rizmie (one half of Edukos Yoga), an Instructor at Yoga District and Mimi Rieger Yoga.
WellcommDC: Where do you work…out?
Dheeya Rizmie: You’ll often find me on the mat, both practicing and teaching, at Yoga District and Mimi Rieger Yoga. I’m a strong believer in cross-training for functional movement and mobility, so I also make time for strength classes at Sweat DC and Definition of Fitness. Check out Raine McKeython (@coachrainestorm) and Coach Kay (@callmebigkaaye) at Sweat DC. One of my best investments has been 1-on-1 training, where I can focus on goals tailored specifically to my body and mindset as they evolve through different seasons. My incredible trainers, Hannah Evans (@sustain__coaching) and Fatima Kamara (@fittima_fitness), keep me accountable every step of the way.
WDC: What does wellness mean to you?
DR: Wellness, to me, is about embracing a holistic approach that integrates the mind, body, and breath. It’s about moving intuitively, fearlessly, and intelligently, recognizing that wellness is deeply personal and unique to each individual. We all have different bodies, anatomies, and emotional and physical histories, so what wellness looks like varies from person to person. It’s about embracing that diversity and understanding that our needs will evolve as we do. Wellness isn’t static—it grows with us, adapting to different seasons of life.
WDC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?
DR: My main goal over the next year is to stay true to myself and keep things intuitive. In the past, I’ve set physical goals that didn’t really stick, but I’ve learned that I do best when I’m kind to myself and focus on balance—both body and mind. Staying consistent with clean, intuitive eating and mindful movement is something I aim for daily, and I’ve noticed it’s made me stronger physically and happier mentally. It’s all about listening to what I need in the moment and honoring that.
WDC: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?
DR: Without a doubt, Hannah Evans (@sustain__coaching) is a huge inspiration. Even though she trains me virtually, she somehow always manages to be incredibly present, compassionate, and tough. She’s constantly learning how to push me further and make me stronger, while also seeing me as a whole person—which makes all the difference in motivating me to lift hard and heavy stuff I never thought possible!
Zaz Grumbar (@yogawithzaz) and Mariel Witmond (@marielwitmond) are also major influences. As two of my first yoga instructors, they have a magical way of holding space and energy, while encouraging you to discover more about yourself, your body, and the deeper reasons behind your movement. Their approach goes beyond the physical practice, and I miss moving with them, but their content is a great source of inspiration, with so much to learn from!
WDC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?
DR: Perfection often stands in the way of both success and growth. Any change, especially in your wellness routine, can feel overwhelming and intimidating—but that’s completely normal. What’s important is to remember that each small step brings you closer to your goal. Growth happens when we embrace discomfort and step into the unfamiliar; it’s how we build new movement patterns and create new neural pathways. I often say in my classes, “There is no rush, there is never any rush.” Allow yourself the space to learn and evolve at your own pace.
