[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Kay Rodriguez (@kaygoesoutside), founder of Outerly and marketing manager of the Bouldering Project in Washington, DC.
WellcommDC: Where do you work…out?
Kay Rodriguez: In DC, I primarily work AND work out at the DC Bouldering Project. They have awesome fitness and yoga instructors, fun climbing, and a cool co-working space where I can crank on things for my startup when I'm not breaking a sweat. I also hike, paddle, and climb outdoors frequently.
WDC: What does wellness mean to you?
KR: To me, wellness is a feeling. When my body, mind, emotions, and social life are in sync, I feel a strong sense of balance and relaxation. When something is out of whack, I feel unstable and chaotic. I find that regular outdoor activities improve all of the aspects that contribute to wellness for me.
WDC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?
KR: My central goal is to get at least 120 minutes of outdoor time per week. I use this cool app called NatureDose, which tracks my time spent outdoors. So far I've been crushing it!
WDC: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?
KR: Other members of the Outerly community. When people show up to go outdoors with strangers at any of our Outings, it lights my heart up a little bit. It takes a LOT of guts to show up - both for yourself and for others - and I admire the people who care enough about improving their wellness to take the first step.
WDC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?
KR: Find a friend (or a group) to motivate and inspire you as you set and complete your goals. Be specific about your goals and keep them updated on your progress. The people around me have a significant influence on my mental state, goals, and achievements—it really does take a village. Plus, it’s a great way to feel less lonely and know that someone is on the journey with you.

[REVIEW] Bre Henderson’s (@easybreezyfit) CUT SEVEN class on September 26th turned a rainy morning into a workout win. Despite the downpour, the class moved inside, and we found ourselves wondering if anyone else would brave the rain to exercise in a half-open garage. The answer was YES, as the class was packed, and Bre kept the energy high. If you get the chance, take her class because she brings that D-1 athlete intensity to every session. [Two Claps]
