[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Lonnie Mulligan (@lon.fit), a fitness trainer in Washington, DC.
WellcommDC: Where do you work…out?
Lonnie Mulligan: I am a NASM-certified personal trainer, a DRIPT (Dynamic Resistance Interval-based Performance training) Instructor at BikramYogaWork in Ivy City, and an Orangetheory Coach at OrangeTheory College Park, MD. In addition to taking classes at the studios where I coach, I stay active through Hot Pilates, Vinyasa, and going on long outdoor walks.
WDC: What does wellness mean to you?
LM: To me, wellness is a deeply personal journey that involves discovering what works best for your unique physical, mental, and emotional needs. It’s not a one-size-fits-all concept. Wellness is about listening to your body and mind, being intentional about finding balance, and allowing yourself the freedom to experiment with what feels right for you. Our differences make us who we are, and embracing those differences in our approach to wellness is key.
WDC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?
LM: Over the next twelve months, my primary wellness goal is to prioritize mental and spiritual recovery, especially through meditation and mindful practices. As a former collegiate athlete, I’ve often focused on the physical aspects of wellness, but with time I’ve prioritized importance of taking time to nurture my mental health and find balance while managing my responsibilities. It’s about truly honing in on my inner peace and giving myself the space to recover both physically and mentally.
WDC: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?
LM: The Orangetheory College Park and BikramYogaWork DRIPT community inspire me every week. They motivate me to show up for myself, just as they do, by consistently investing in their wellness through physical movement. The support and accountability that comes from being part of such a dedicated community makes all the difference. Consistency isn’t always easy, but it’s so much more achievable when you’re surrounded by people who share the same welcoming spirit and determination to keep pushing forward.
WDC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?
LM: If you’re looking to change your wellness routine, my advice is to give yourself the grace to experiment and explore different approaches. There isn’t one “correct” way to achieve wellness—it’s about finding what best meets your physical, emotional, and mental needs. Be patient with yourself, and don’t be afraid to test out various methods until you find what truly resonates with you. You are capable, you are valued, and the most important thing is to find the path that makes you feel your best. Good luck on your journey!

[REVIEW] Slow and spicy on a Saturday morning with Up Dog Yoga Community will cure any ailment. UDYC studio manager Anna Farmer-Fonseca (@yogaheartfelt) helped us leave all stresses outside the door with a comfortable (but sweaty) 85° heated room, slow, controlled movements and nice stretches that helped us progress in our yoga practice. This and the post-class tea, coffee, and good convos in the lobby were the perfect start to our weekend.
WATCH the recap. Thanks for joining WCDC community manager Reilly Knecht (@reillykathrynn): Sam Bryant (@motleybryant), Jennie Bryant (@jenniekbryant), Ashtyn Landen (@ashtynlanden), Danny Smith (@danimalyogurts), Lindsey Curnutte (@lcurnutte), Sarah Lamson (@slammy95) & Melanie Vynalek (@melanievynalek).
