[HIGH FIVE] We gave a High Five to Meghan Gifford (@yourfrqncy) a breathwork guide, instructor at Cylebar NoMa, and the founder of FRQNCY.
WellcommDC: Where do you work…out?
Meghan Gifford: When I am not coaching at Cyclebar NoMa or leading breathwork journeys at Awarehouse, Up Dog Yoga, or Adose Wellness, you can find me building strength at MADabolic 14th St (@mad_dmv), expanding my nervous system's capacity at Awarehouse, going on long walks around NW DC, or dancing at a Nu Androids show.
I spent years believing the lie that intensity = health. I would push my body through daily intense workouts because I thought I had to. Unsurprisingly, this approach left me burnt out and disconnected from my body. I am so grateful to be in a place now where I listen to what my body truly needs—including rest days!
WDC: What does wellness mean to you?
MG: To me, wellness means wholeness, awareness, and connection—to self, others, and the world. I don’t think of wellness in separate “silos'“ like mind vs. body because it’s all connected and fundamentally made of the same essence. Cultivating wellness is an inside-out job that begins with my relationship to myself. When I prioritize creating an inner space of love and peace, this energy flows into all areas of my life, allowing me to show up fully and pour into my loved ones and community. However, when I fall out of alignment with myself, it definitely shows! Wellness also means making choices that affect my health and well-being from a place of internal awareness and self-love, rather than from a place of lack or self-criticism.
WDC: What are your wellness goals over the next twelve months?
MG: After over a decade as a leader in the corporate world, I am taking a big leap of faith in 2025 to focus full-time on my healing business. My goals are to give myself plenty of grace during this transition, care for my nervous system so I can navigate the uncertainty, and deepen my embodiment as a leader and guide. Oh, and I also want to dance more!
WDC: Who are some people who inspire you, motivate you, or keep you accountable when it comes to your wellness?
MG: Gosh, SO MANY, but here are a few special ones: Kelli Coffman (@kcoff15), our lead instructor at Cyclebar NoMa, is a master of community connection. Every time I step into a space with her, I’m motivated to dig deeper into myself, elevate my craft, and create an environment of belonging for everyone. When you walk into Up Dog Yoga, you can feel Charlie Lewis' (@charlielew) nurturing and grounding presence in the air. Her vision, integrity, and warmth have created such a wonderful community, and I am consistently inspired by her leadership. I am eternally grateful to Sadler Gensch (@sadlergensch) for always reminding me to choose joy and for being there for a sassy little yap when I need it. Finally, every single human who steps into a breathwork journey inspires me to keep going. I’m forever in awe of your bravery, depth, and the healing that becomes possible when you say yes to yourself.
WDC: What advice would you share with someone looking to change their wellness routine?
MG: Get clear on your “why” before making any changes. Ask yourself, “Why do I want to change this?” and ensure your why comes from a place of self-love, not unworthiness or lack (only the first kind of why truly works). Remember, not every trend you see on Instagram or TikTok is going to be right for you. Experiment. Have fun. Let it be messy. Your body is infinitely wise, and you can trust it.
